Hybrid Combat Promotions presents: H5 Play by play



1. 170 Pierre Mellon (Team Bushido-Ottawa) vs. Gaetan Lauzon (Kung Fu Portoa- Ottawa)
Rd1: Both fighters come out swinging hard after they touch gloves to kick off the round. After exchanges and big shots from both fighters Lauzon gets a takedown and controls from the side. After taking lauzon back Mellon loses he’s position and Lauzon sweeps to guard where the round ends after a couple shots from the top.
Rd2: Wasting no time at all Mellon takes Lauzon down with a quick double leg. After quick movement on top Lauzon gives up his back and turtles, from there Mellon tries to sink in his hooks but is unsuccessful, Lauzon rolls to his back where Mellon takes guard and pounds away for the rest of the round.
Rd 3. Mellon again wastes no time taking down lauzon and keeping him there, working from the side for the majority of the round Mellon keeps position and attempts an armbar that he secures just as the round ends.
Mellon wins the fight Via 30-27 decision


2. 155 Guillaume Caron (Juvaldo- Val D’Or) vs. Eric Nadon (NX Martial Arts/Arts Martiaux Evolution Gatineau)

Both fighters come out with heavy exchanges and Caron gets a knockdown, Nadon gets caught in side control and is able to stand where the round is finished from standing seeing both fighters scoring from the feet.

Rd 2

Neither fighter wants to take the fight to the ground and both trade nice combos back and forth, both fighters take shots to the groin and different times, taking their breaks. Caron remains the better of the two in the stand up

Rd3

This round sees the same deal, lots of trading back and forth as both fighters score from the feet. Caron seals the deal late in the 3rd with a takedown landing in side control and finishes the round with strikes from the top

3. 155 Chris Trembelas (Prodigy MMA-St. Thomas) vs. Jon Chiera (Team Bushido- Ottawa)

Cheira starts off the round by taking Trembelas down with a quick double, where he is able to pass from guard to half and tries to finish the round with a kimura, just as he sets it, the round ends.

Cheira scores another take down after a brief exchange where he also gets the better of the points. Cheira goes for the same kimura, and rolls into an armbar before Trembelas is able to escape. Both fighters go through the ropes, starting the fighters in the middle of the ring for the last 10 seconds. From the restart Trembelas stands up and gets slammed hard again by cheira.

In round 3 Cheira goes for the take down again and is reversed by Trembelas he unloads briefly from the guard. For the rest of the round both fighters remain inactive on the ground

4. 160 Bruno Pierre-Dubois (Juvaldo-Val d’Or) vs. Eric Girard (Ronin MMA- Ottawa)

After two beautiful hip tosses Eric Girard allows Dubois to stand with him. Girard, the more technical striker lands the better combos with the hands, as Dubois throws wildly. The round ends with both fighters exchanging hands.

Rd 2

Neither fighter wants to take the fight to the ground as both exchange heavy hands. Girard remains the more technical of the two, but Dubois lands solid shots and lands his push kicks at will. The round ends with Dubois landing bigger shots with his hands and Girard stuck in the corner.

Dubois lands a couple big shots but misses and head kick and loses his balance. Girard jumps on and lands side control just as both fighters slide under the bottom rope. When the fight is restarted on the ground after a brief scramble on the ground Girard is able to take an arm and secure an armbar at 57 seconds into the third round.

5. 160 Jeff Andrews (Team Bushido-Ottawa) vs. Gavin Ward (FIT MMA-Ottawa)

Ward comes out displaying a jiu jitsu clinic as he transitions from armbar to triangle and back again after a quick take down. Andrews is able to break free and is taken dow again where ward goes for more submission, after a failed armbar attempt Andrews is able to gain top position and score some shots from the top. The round ends when ward is able to stand and take down Andrews again
Andrews takes a new approach and tries to guillotine his way to victory dropping down after failed takedown attemps from ward. Each time Ward is able to capitalize and score positioning points and small shots from the top. Transitioning to andrews’ back ward attemps a rear naked choke and Andrews scramble to escape, again from standing Andrews drops to a failed guillotine and the round ends with ward on top.

Once again Ward using positioning to score his points, Andrews is able to reverse and do some damange from the top position, from standing guard Andrews rains down blows on ward who does his best to keep Andrews at bay. With 10 seconds left inthe round ward is able to secure an arm and almost gets the armbar before the round ends.

6. 170 Kris Baker (Ronin MMA-Ottawa) vs. Stephan Lefebvre (Arts Martiaux Evolution-Gatineau)

Lefebvre comes out overpowering Baker from the get go and the fighters have a brief exchange on the feet. Baker clinches Lefebvre and tries to contain him in a corner but Lefebrve throws Baker to the ground where he takes his back. After a brief battle Lefebvre takes the rear naked choke at 101 in the first round.

7. 155 Nick Lynch (NX Martial Arts- Orleans) vs. Mike Tremblay (Alpha MMA-Carleton Place)

Tremblay immediately goes for the take down and after being stuffed twice Lynch finally is taken down by a double leg. Tremblay looks to work from sidecontrol but lynch is able to get him off and stand back up. For the rest of the round after brief exchanges mike looks for take downs, he finally pulls flying guard just as the round ends

Mike again pulls flying guard and takes position for an armbar, lynch rolls and from side tremblay patiently waits for a chance to sweep, mike uses a sweep to gain top position and works for an armbar for the remainder of the round, the bell rings just as mike is pulling the arm lose.

Once again Mike pulls flying guard and looks to work for submissions Lynch does very well defending the submissions from his back but is’t able to move from his back.

Mike tremblay wins via split decision.

8. 170 Brendan Beavis (Prodigy MMA- St. Thomas) vs. Paul Levac (Ronin MMA – Ottawa)

Levac starts off the match landing a couple big fights from standing. Beavis rushes in for the take down and pulls guard. After some short shots from the top beavis loses Levac who attemps an armbar. From standing again Levac lands a few big head kicks that seems to rattle beavis who again rushes for the takedown. The round ends with beavis ontop landing short shots.

Again Levac gets the better of the stand up early in the round. The fight goes to the ground where Levan is able to gain mount. Beavis pulls Levac with a sweep and gains side control where he lands some short shots to end the round.

Beavis scores a big double right out the gates of round three where he is able to score mount after landing on top. He spends the rest of the round landing well planned heavy shots from full mount, where Levac isn’t able to mount any offence. The round ends with Beavis landing more big shots and maintaining control from the top.

Bevis takes the fight via unam decision

9. 185 Ralph Jean Pierre David (Juvaldo-Val d’Or) vs. Harley David (FIT MMA-Ottawa)

Pierre David comes out blasting kicks at David and moves round the ring with repeated leg kicks and kicks to the body. Harley David isn’t able to find his distance with his hands, which he seems to be more comfortable throwing. Pierre David lands more kicks to the body and legs and circles the ring with Harley.

Harley is able to find his range early and control most of the stand up through the round. After blasting David with a hook and woobling him, Harley is looking tired and fails to follow through, David blast Harley with push that sends him to the mats, where the fighters start from their feet again. David blasts Harley with another kick to end the round.

Harley takes david down with a double and remains in his guard for the full 2 minutes landing small shots. This should be enough for him to take the fight.

10. 155 Shane Sparenberg (Prodigy MMA- St Thomas) vs. Rob Tracey ( Arts Martiaux Evolution- Gatineau)

Rob Tracey takes advantage of his experience level early taking Sparenberg to the ground after a brief exchange and taking his back, where he then sinks in the early rnc at 1:07 into round 1.


Ryan Hawes (theriene jj – Ottawa) vs Vincent Forget (evolution mma Gatineau)

Forget is taken down early and mounted by Hawes after a scramble. The fighters go to the ropes after Forget escapes from the bottom and finds himself controlling Hawes from the side. Forget soon grabs ahold of Hawes arm and locks in a kimura at 1:45 into round 1.


11. 185 Steve Alexopoulos (FIT MMA-Ottawa) vs. Mathieu Lemay (Patenaude Kung Fu-Gatineau)

Lemay comes out of the ropes and looks to get a quick exchange before Alexopoulos is able to take him down. Steve is able to move to side then to half guard before taking Lemays back, steve tries to get a rnc but loses his position and ends up with lemay on top and landing a couple nice shots before the round ends.

Lemay comes out the gates and takes steve down early and lands decent shots. After taking steves back from throwing bombs from full mount steve is able to escape into Lemays guard where he lands a couple shots of his own. Lemay is able to stand up and steve tries for another take down as the round ends, but the bell comes first.

Steve wins by unam decision

12. 165 Patrick Gill (Zahabi MMA-Montreal) vs. Matthew Richardson (N1-Thai Boxing Academy- Ottawa)
Richardson lands a nice leg kick off the bat where gill returns a straight right. After tying eachother up gill is able to drag Richardson to the ground and land some more shots from the top. Richardson tries to roll and Gill takes guard and lands more nice shots. After a scramble Richardson is able to stand and tries for a takedown of his own, which gill stuffs, the round ends with Richardson almost getting knee bared and landing big shots from standing at the same time
Due to technical difficulties play by play for the last fight was lost.

Gill wins via spilt decision.
