After her performance at WreckMMA's Unite for Brian's Fight last weekend, and earning "Knockout of the night" and "Fight of the night" honours from multiple websites , F.I.T MMA bred Anna Barone takes the first ever Bloodycanucksmma.com Fighter of the Month Award.

The F.I.T MMA trained MMA star holds a professional record of 1-1, and has quickly become the face of female MMA in the Ontario/Quebec MMA scene. Her amateur bout with Ottawa based fighter Jose Aupre, sparked many fans interested in Canadian female MMA, when the two fighters put on a "Stephan Bonnar vs. Forrest Griffen" style, action packed three round fight back in May of 2009.

Barone, who is also the strength and conditioning coach at F.I.T MMA Ottawa, has worked only her stand up in the 3 fights we've seen her in, and we are looking forward to seeing how her grappling is when the time comes.

Wreck MMA: Unite for Brian's fight live play by play and results

Wreck MMA’S charitable event; Unite for Brian’s Fight took place on April 16, 2010 in front of a large crowd at the Robert Guertin Arena in Gatineau Quebec. The show was a huge success seeing a night full of barn burner fights that kept the crowd entertained and ready to help the cause.
Unite for Brian’s fight was an event looking to raise money for a local Ottawa Police Officer who has been diagnosed with ALS, and saw money raised from the event go towards a college fund for Officer Brian Dyck’s daughter.

The following is a recap of the night’s events, play by play, photos and much more.

Wes Ranger vs. Albert Cheng

Both of these fighters were stepping into the ring for the very first, and Albert Cheng made sure his debut would get him noticed. As soon as the round started the fighters engaged and Cheng blasted a double leg that saw both fighters go through the ropes and almost onto the judges table. After the restart Cheng fired off another explosive double leg that planted Ranger on his back. For the rest of the fight Cheng controlled from top position landing big elbows and punches from mount. Ranger struggled to get back to the feet, where he was clearly more comfortable, but Cheng would have nothing of it. Eventually to avoid further punishment, Ranger gave Cheng his back and Cheng secured a rear naked choke, ending the fight at 4:30 into round 1.

Randy Turner vs. Mikael Pellerin

Making his second appearance, and looking for his first win under the Wreck MMA promotion Randy Turner was looking for blood coming out the gates. The fighters engaged and Mikael got the better of the stand up stunning Turner on the feet. Turner tied up Pellerin and took the fight to the ground, where the Gracie BJJ fighter looked fantastic controlling the action. After a short scramble, Turner found home taking Pellerin’s back, and sinking in a rear naked choke that ended the fight at 3:13 of the first round.

Mike Riley vs. Paul Ebejer

Riley, making his pro debut looked much more comfortable than his opponent, Ebejer while standing. Both fighters landed nice jabs, and tie each other up. Ebejer, looking much bigger than Riley uses his size to control the fight into a corner of the ring. Riley breaks free and lands an uppercut that sends Ebejer tumbling to the mat. The fight ends quickly and it is later reviled that Ebejer took the uppercut directly to the throat, giving Riley the TKO win at just 1:06 into round 1.

Anna Barone vs. Jenn Ricker

Anna Barone didn’t let the multiple opponent changes rile her up, as she looked extremely comfortable striking with BJJ artist Jenn Ricker, who took the fight vs. Barone on two days notice.

Round 1 saw Barone getting the edge in the stand up, finding home for her jabs at each punch Ricker seemed to throw. Ricker does a very good job in the clinch, showing her muay thai skills landing nice knees to the body. Barone shows a preference to her hands, landing multiple over hand rights that keep catching Ricker. Stunned and tired Ricker stays on her feet, struggling to take Barone to the mats. This round is none stop action and sees the crowd on their feet as round 1 comes to an end.

Bloodycanucks scores round 1- 10-9 Barone

Round two sees Ricker coming out tired and visibly damaged. Barone continues to find a home for her overhand right and lands one that eventually takes the lights out of Jenn Ricker, ending the fight via KO at 0:55 into round 2.

Gerry Bruyere vs. Jeff Laughren

Gerry Bruyere, with the clear reach advantage, fired off combos to start off the fight. Bruyere looked very confident in his striking and found his range early landing effect striking that seemed to baffle the shorter Laughren, who struggled to get the take down. After a brief scramble the fights found themselves on the ground, where Laughren was able to sink in a RNC that ends the fight midway through round 1.

Mike Hong vs. Stephane Pelletier

Mike Hong, who looked massive at 135 took control of round one early, landing multiple take downs, and not keeping the fight on their feet, where it was quite obvious that Pelletier was the better of the two. Hong scored twice with solid take downs, and maintained control on the ground, while Pelletier stayed very active looking for submissions to end the fight. Pelletier at one point had what looked like it could have been a fight ending triangle choke almost locked in, but the ref made the fighters stand up once they both slid under the ropes. Tough break for Pelletier, as Hong lands another take down before the round ends.

Bloodycanucksmma scores the round 10-9 Hong

Round two saw Hong step away from his game plan in round one and kept the fight standing. Pelletier, takes control of this, landing bigger combos, and seeming to have a faster answer to every punch Hong throws. Pelletier controls the entire stand up game from start to finish of the round.

Bloodycancuks scores the second round 10-9 Pelletier.

Round three finds Hong looking back to his original game plan, and takes down Pelletier, where he again controls the fight from mount and side control. While Pelletier does stay busy from his back, Hong hangs on and pulls out the unanimous decision win.

All three judges score the fight 29-28 Hung.

Stephane Bernadel vs. Justin Smethurst

Smethurst, who towers over Bernadel, is also the slower of the two fights, as Bernadel stays light on his feet and moves in and out with nice combos. The leg kick is there waiting for Steph to take full advantage of, but he sticks to his hands and unloaded 3-5 hit combos to the face and body of Smethurst at will. Smethurst does not go un-noticed though, landing a body kick hard enough to leave a mark on Bernadels ribs. After the first round of action the fighters go back to their corners. Steph looks un-phased, while Smethurst, taking a lot of damage to the body, looks tired.

Bloodycancucks scores round one 10-9 Bernadel.

Round 2 sees much of the same, as round one. Bernadel controls the stand up and this time is taking advantage of the lead leg of the flat footed Smethurst that is just begging to be kicked off into the stands. Steph is focusing more on the body shots to the tired Smethrust, who does his best to keep Bernadel at bay. After landing a nice body shot to Smethurst, Bernadel pounces and ends the fight via TKO at 2:43 into round 2.

Chase Dagenhardt vs. Craig Brown

The undefeated Dagenhardt comes out swinging hard and wild vs. Brown, who’s making his debut at 185. Brown does a good job of evading punishment and takes the fight to the ground after dragging down Dagenhardt. Brown lands nice short elbows from side control and does his best to find a submission from the top. Dagenhardt finds his footing and stands up, only to be belly to back suplexed back down again by Brown, who in turn sinks his hooks in and seals in a RNC ending the fight at 3:23 into round 1.

Samuel Guilet vs. Kurt Southern

BTT Canada’s Samuel Guilet wastes no time getting the fight to the ground where he controls the action right out the gates. Guilet takes Southern’s back and grabs an arm and starts to pull. Southern who is a very Strong wrestler, does his best to guard his arm, and lifts Guilet into the air and slams his down. This however only sinks the arm in deeper and Guilet seals the deal with an inverted armbar at 2:09 into round 1.

Louis Phillip Carle vs. Simon Marini
Co-main event.

The crowd favoured Carle starts off the round with a nice jab, that is answered with an identical jab from Marini. Both fighters are very technical strikers, and pick their shots wisely. Marini, who is the flatter of the two on the feet, uses his head movement to draw shots, and counters well vs. Carle, who lands the better of the exchanges. Marini ties up Carle and being the strong of the two is able to move Carle into the corner where the two continue to exchange knees and rabbit punches from the tie up. Marini drags Carle to the ground, where they scramble back to their feet, and when they break free Carle catches Marini with a nice hook that leaves a mouse and a small cut under Marini’s left eye. The round ends and the fighters return to their corner.

Bloodycanucks scores the round 10-9 Carle

Round two sees Carle even lighter on his feet, and he starts taking it to the leg of the flatter footed Marini with a nice hard leg kick to open the round. After a brief exchange Marini catches Carle which sees him stumble on the mat and fall to a knee, Marini takes full advantage and jumps on Carle’s back, and sinks in the RNC to end the fight at 2:08 into round 2.

Ian Loveland vs. Xavier Desroches
135lb title fight, Main event.

Round one sees the much taller Loveland find his distance early vs. the 5’4 Desroches. Xavier throws a few big punches and misses, while Loveland feints and rocks Desroches with a combo and a head kick. Xavier looks to tie up Loveland, but Loveland lands some big shots that send Desroches to the mat. Loveland jumps on top and pounds away ending the fight at 0:41 into round one. Loveland takes the bantamweight title and gives much respect to Desroches, who took the fight on 1 weeks’ notice against him, and says “you know, this guy shows true heart of a champion, he takes the fight on 1 weeks’ notice, and I have literally 10 times as many fights as he does, much respect to Desroches)

Loveland than says he would like to fight Nick Denis, who is in attendance. The Sengoku and KOTC vet comes into the ring and both fighters shake hands. Denis says he’d love to fight the hard hitting Loveland, setting up a possible first title defence for Loveland.
